Mission
Mortar Board, Inc., a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.

Reading is Leading
In 2002, Mortar Board adopted "Reading is Leading" as its national service initiative. The goal is to promote literacy across the world for people of all ages, and to cultivate academic integrity and a love of learning in elementary and secondary school students. The Kansas State University XIX Chapter of Mortar Board supports this national project by hosting an annual "Reading is Power" event for children at the Manhattan Public Library, mentoring a class of local fifth graders though a pen-pal program, and now, by creating The Reading Run!
